How old does my child have to be to attend Seattle Preschool?
We enroll children between the ages of 3 and 5 years. At the discretion of our Director, a child may be enrolled at 2 years and 10 months if they have experience being away from parents in a preschool type setting for at least 4 hours at a time and they are self sufficient in the bathroom.
Are the children separated by age?
No. Unless it pertains to the curriculum, students are always mixed. This promotes social awareness and self paced development.
What is the ratio of teachers to students?
Two teachers to a maximum of 16 students.
Does my child have to be potty trained?
Yes. Your child needs to be able to recognize the need to use the toilet, express that need to teachers and must be self sufficient while using the bathroom
What about "Pull-ups"?
Our preference is actual underwear.
But what if he/she has an "accident" at school?
Occasionally? No Problem. Every day? Problem. If your child is challenged by the need to be self sufficient in the bathroom, he/she may need more time to work on the concept rather than to be forced into an uncomfortable situation. You know your child best.
Are you open all year?
Our regular program begins in September and ends in June, following the Seattle Public Schools' calendar. We also have a six week summer program with separate enrollment.
How do I enroll?
When you are ready to enroll, stop by the classroom to pick up an enrollment contract. As long as there is space available, the Director will initial your schedule choice and then you can take the completed contract to our Registrar along with a non-refundable deposit of one month's tuition and a $60 supply fee.
What are the schedule options?
You can enroll for M/W/F, T/Th or M-F and you can choose to enroll in the morning program, the afternoon program or both. The morning program is from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. The afternoon program is from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
Can I enroll for T/W/Th or something different?
No. If we enroll children on different schedules other than our standard rhythms, it makes filling all spaces more of a challenge.
But what if the days or times that I want are full?
We encourage you to add your name to our waiting list if the rhythm you prefer is currently full. The wait list is not impossible. People's lives change. You can add your name by calling our Registrar at 206-362-7447.
What if my child is too young to attend this year but I want to stay in touch for next year?
By all means, send us an email to jsilverstein@seattlegymnastics.com with your address information so that we can add your to our mailing list! We have an open house in February and begin taking enrollment at that time for the following Fall.
Can we visit the school before we decide?
Of course! We schedule visits on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:45 AM. It takes about 10 minutes. The students are in gymnastics at that time which makes the teaching staff available to answer any questions you may have. Call ahead to schedule an appointment at 206-267-2989 or email to jsilverstein@seattlegymnastics.com.
